Three Questions


  On May 22, 1978 I attended a Christian meeting held at the Grand Ballroom of the Bowling Green State University Student Union.  The main speaker was a well known teacher named Bob Mumford.

During his presentation he made the remark that he believed that God is in the process of uniting His people.  He then made the statement, "I don't know what we can do to promote this process."

Immediately upon hearing that statement I found myself in a cloud.  I no longer had any perception that I was in a meeting in the Grand Ballroom at BGSU.  I could not see anything other than cloud all around me, and I could not hear anything.

Then I heard a big voice above and behind me asking three questions:

"How is it that you call yourselves by this name or that name and not by My Name?  My people should be called by My Name. 

And how is it that you say that you belong here or there?  You belong to Me, for I bought you with a Price.

And how it is that you bind yourselves together with bonds of covenant when I would have you bonded together with love?"

With those Three Questions ringing in my ears I realized that I was still sitting in the Bob Mumford meeting!!  I didn't know what to do with those questions.  Should I stand up and speak them out as a prophesy?  Should I go forward and tell them to Bob Mumford or the host Pastor?

As I wrestled with what to do with those questions I remembered a passage in the Acts of The Apostles, chapter 22 about the apostle Paul returning to Jerusalem.

Act 22:17  "When I [Paul] had returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, I fell into a trance
Act 22:18  and saw Him saying to me, 'Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about Me.'

I understood from this that I was not to proclaim these Questions to those people at the meeting, but that they were meant for some other time and place.  Perhaps this is your time and place, dear reader!

SO WHAT?

As I have pondered those questions from time to time over the years I have realized that it is not by hearing the questions and purposing in our minds by our own willpower to do things 'God's way' that we will fulfill the right answers implied by these questions.  It will take a fundamental transformation in all of our lives to get these answers right.  I believe that we will need to be transformed from being carnal Christians to being spiritual Christians before we can get anything right in our lives.

Maybe "the fullness of the gentiles' means when gentile believers in Jesus are full of the Holy Spirit and empty of 'the spirit of the world' resulting in the loving unity with Father and Jesus that we are meant to  have in fulfillment of these three questions, then the Jews will be saved.
That leads us to another page - Born Again - Really??
