Commentary on Derek Prince Book - Spiritual Warfare For The End Times


I just finished reading this book by Derek Prince about spiritual warfare.  I found it to be very informative, balanced, and Scriptural.

But I found it interesting that several passages which I consider to be obvious passages about spiritual warfare were missing.  So I thought that I should list those passages of Scripture with the insights the Lord has given me about them.

As usual I take no credit for the insights I have because I was not seeking them nor did I come to them by my own understanding.  But I do take credit for any rubbish which I write.  Please let me know if you deem anything to be rubbish, and I will reconsider them prayerfully!

First, although Brother Prince makes mention of the topic of destroying enemy strongholds, with reference to 2 Corinthians 10:4
2Co 10:4  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
he did not go on to the next verse:
2Co 10:5  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Instead he goes on to discuss the spiritual armor and the weapon of the sword of the Spirit.  hmmm

Second, concerning the roots of our lives he refers to Abraham and Paul's writing about Abraham being the father of our faith, but he makes no mention of Jesus's revelation on this matter:
Mat 23:9  And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, Who is in heaven.

Third, he makes reference to 'gentile' believers being grafted into the Jewish olive tree, he fails to refer to Jesus being the True Vine into which we are to abide:
Joh 15:5  I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Fourth, Derek Prince was used powerfully by God to deliver people from evil spirits, and he makes mention of this in his book, but he makes no mention of a passage from the Gospel of Luke:

Luk_10:19  Behold, I give to you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the authority of the enemy. And nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Wow!!  Unlimited spiritual authority over all the power of the enemy with the promise that 'nothing will in any manner hurt you!!!  How can we lose using that weapon as Jesus, our Commander in Chief, directs us???

I will leave you, dear reader, to prayerfully ponder these passages of Scripture so that the Lord Himself can give you perfect wisdom, but I make one more observation:

I hear serious Christians from all over the world quoting passages from the Old Testament and the Epistles of Paul, but seldom do they quote our Lord Jesus.  Does that not seem strange to you???  Does not His application of Scripture supercede anything from His predessors and successors???
