Abortion
or Pro-Life?
One of the issues of our society
which divides people concerns our laws
which regulate the ability of pregnant women to terminate their
pregnancy. Some call the issue Abortion Rights, which others call
the issue Right to Life.
I suggest that there is a more
fundamental issue which typically never
gets addressed. It is the issue of responsibilities.
Americans are all about their rights,
but we tend to ignore the fact
that every right generates a corresponding responsibility. Even
our most basic national documents refer to certain God-given rights
such as Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness while not
mentioning the corresponding responsibilities of protecting other
people's and creatures' corresponding rights.
So, it seems to me to be unproductive
to wrangle about women's rights
to abortions and children's rights to life while ignoring the fact that
it usually takes a male sperm joining the female's egg to result in the
child whose rights of existence are being debated. On rare
occasions I hear about a father's rights with relation to his children,
but I have never heard anyone address the issue of a man's
responsibility with regard to an unborn child. I suspect that the
vast majority of unwanted unborn children are the result of
irresponsible sexual activity by men, and thus I believe that men's
responsibility for their sexual activities should be addressed and made
accountable.
Then, if and when men are held
accountable for their irresponsible
sexual conduct, and appropriate sanctions are instituted for the
results, perhaps there will be a reduction in the number of unborn
children whose lives are terminated.
THE REST OF THE STORY
I believe that people indeed were
created male and female by our loving
Heavenly Father, and that holy sexuality was part of His plan for all
men and women as part of our lives to be lived in an abiding
relationship with our Heavenly Father through His Son, Jesus
Christ. In addition I believe that the present views of sexuality
held by fallen mankind are either too restrictive or too lenient
compared to God's normal plan.
But I also believe that every person
can attain a life of righteousness
and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit if they choose the crucified and
resurrected life available to each and every one of us from our
Heavenly Father by the grace He gives which was purchased by our Lord
Jesus when He humbled Himself to become human, lived, suffered, died,
was buried and was resurrected to be the Source of a new, holy life for
those who choose to abide in Him.
But we have an adversary who is
intent on preventing those who are made
in the image of God from living the holy, pure, simple and trusting
life in this age and in the age to come. This adversary needs to
be overcome in order for any of us to live as we are supposed to
live. And provision has been made for us to overcome him "by the
Blood of the Lamb [our Lord Jesus - the Lamb of God Who takes away the
sin of the world] and the word of our testimony, and by loving not our
lives even unto death."
So, how does one actually accomplish
this overcoming? I suggest
that you speak to our Lord Jesus because He is the only One Who can
properly instruct any of us, and we all need to receive His
instructions personally and directly without being filtered through any
middleman or middlewoman. As the saying goes, "When in doubt, go
to The Source."
He will tell you, dear reader, what
you are required to do to enable
you to receive and enjoy the rights which our Heavenly Father gives to
those who love Him and are called according to His purposes.
Pro 3:5
Trust Yahweh with all
your heart; do not lean toward your own understanding. In all your ways
acknowledge him, and he will straighten your paths. Do not be wise in
your own eyes; fear Yahweh and retreat from evil.
